I have a terrible habit that I have overcome at work, but not entirely with those I love, especially with family members and friends.
I apologize too often!
I apologize that the pasta is overcooked – or too al dente; I apologize that my son’s day went badly. I apologize for not remembering to do the laundry… I can even apologize because it’s raining!
It’s an old pattern that comes back when I do not pay attention…. as if I were responsible for everything.
My daughter (20 years old) caught me the other day and irritated she said:
“Mom, from now on, every time you apologize for something silly, I want you to put two francs in this jar for me because I want you to stop setting a bad example.”
Touché!
